State of regulatory and policy approach to SDF
Germany has had a strategy for sustainable development since 2016, which has gone through a number of revisions. Sustainable finance is a newer policy area in the country. In 2019 the government established a Sustainable Finance Advisory Council. The Deutche Bundesbank has been active as a co-founder of the Network of Central Banks and Financial Supervisors for Greening the Financial System (NGFS), among other initiatives. Although Germany’s strategic documents are mainly silent as to the potential role of fintech in sustainable finance, Germany has a number of policies and strategies related to digitization such as The Blockchain Strategy of the Federal Government which clearly positions blockchain-powered finance as a driver of a sustainable transition. Also, the Environmental Digital Agenda of the Federal Ministry for the Environment (2019) is an agenda for environmental, climate and nature conservation with a clear integration of digital technology.
